It's not for nothing I call smartphones "slave boxes." Designed to emphasize the convenience and fun aspect for the purposes of reeling everybody in -- the true purpose has always been to track, trace and ultimately control. I see them as part of rolling out the red carpet for the antichrist, the beast system. They're like the cheese in a trap for a mouse.

If I could smash my smartphone with a sledgehammer, I'd do it tomorrow. But my job requires that I have one, to clock in and out and for geolocation (since we're all untrustworthy and/or criminal suspects these days).

I dearly miss the days pre-Internet, and especially pre-smartphones. The phones may be "smart" but humanity is incredibly stupid to have let them become so integral and important to everyday life. There will be huge regret about that someday.

Hmm, even though cell phones, the internet, etc., is so terrible and harmful, I wouldn’t have been able to access this podcast without one or the other.

If not for the development of and widespread -- and increasingly required -- use of these things, we wouldn't need podcasts like this one so badly. (And we always had radio...) The positive aspect of such technology pales in comparison to what's coming for all of us as a result of slavishly embracing them, and making them mandatory for the functioning of society. It didn't have to be that way, but there will always be humans who find ways to take something good and use it for destructive or evil purposes. Or just who use it arrogantly, with no thought given to potential consequences. It's not going to end well.

Totally agree.

I must relate my aha moment from 1990. I worked in IT already and my first "cellphone" was in a bag and occupied the passenger seat while I was on the road.

My first encounter with a handheld was in a Toys r Us looking for Christmas toys for my kids. A woman was in the next aisle over talking to someone and I had to walk around to see who it was. When I rounded the corner and saw her on the not so smart phone I thought wow this is going to change our lives. Not too long after I got my first Nokia flip phone with 20 free text messages a month just to get us addicted. It's hard to believe where have been herded to today. Good chat!
