Seth. The tweet you quoted said the US deindustrialization started after WWII and then gave graphs starting this century. America was a great industrial nation until financialization began with Reagan in the eighties. You will never accept it but the decline stemmed not from Nixon moving off the gold standard in 1971 but because the other plank of Bretton Woods [namely restriction of capital movements, lead to each country investing profits domestically] was shot. Once capital restrictions were lifted the money flowed out - along with labour. Alt thinkers constantly say you need to back a currency with gold. But this is nonsense. A currency is backed by two things 1. the strength of the country's economy and 2. the ability of the government to tax that economy in a non-corrupt way. This is how fiat currencies work. You and other alt thinkers have been forecasting the demise of the dollar for decades but the dollar is still relatively strong and current is going up. As everyone knows the dollar is the reserve currency because the Saudis and others agreed to price oil in dollars creating an artificial demand for dollars. Dollar spending would DECREASE the value of the dollar. He got it the wrong way around. Massive dollar expanding is enabled by it being the reserve currency not the other way around. Where do you find these guys?
